China is a kingdom of bicycles. Chengdu is the city with millions of bicycles. But bicycles are not popular in every city. Take Chongqing for example, Chongqing, along Yangtze River is a mountainous city; there are lots of motorcycles instead of bicycles. Bicycle in Chengdu is a traffic tool rather than a sport exercise tool. In 1970's and 80's, bicycle was one of the four important properties for marriage, coming along with sewing machine, watch and radio. Bicycles were so important to Chinese people before 1990's, if one had an imported bike like Raleish from UK, he or she would be regarded as a millionaire! Bikes were designed very strong before 1990's even same in nowadays rural area, because bike is one of the main tools for people to carry things and person. Nowadays in city you can rarely see that kind of bikes any more. People prefer famous brand, strong but light bikes especially young people, just like that in western country.Note from :Renting a bike is easy in tourism city. Deposit and renting fee are charged for that.
